Geonosis Canyons


Geonosis Canyons was a location shown in the PC/Xbox game: Republic Commando. One of the levels had the commandos infiltrating and disabling an anti air turret. This scene is the setting for this map.
This map used many new methods of mapping and scripting to make it come to life. Terrain for the map was done completely by hand. I think overall theres at least three thousand individual brushes that make up the triangular based terrain. Another huge feature of the map is the use of scripting. With scripting, gunships fly through the air, crashing into the canyon walls and being chased by enemy starfighters. The turret complex uses scripting to make the walls shake randomly at times to simulate being rocked by explosions from passing ships. Mini rockslides also realisticly tumble from the rock walls. The heart of the complex houses the turrets ammo loading machine. From here the republic team needs to place two bombs then guard them for a short time beore running for cover. The neat thing is the bomb when detonated, kills anyone near by. This puts added pressure on the droid forces team as they need to defuse the bomb before then. Scripting for the bomb countdown was furnished by another mapper: Darth Hunter.
